ENM Mailbag: Lifestyle Burnout, Jealousy & Pool Party Game
Okay, real talk: sometimes the best episodes don't need a guest. They just need an inbox full of chaos and two hosts willing to dig through it live. That's this week's ENM mailbag — one voicemail, one message, zero names, and honestly? Two of the realest questions we've gotten in a while.
We split the show right down the middle, because these two questions genuinely could not have been more different. One's a gut-punch. One's a comedy of errors at the world's most confusing pool party. Let's get into it.
"My Husband Loves the Lifestyle. I Want Out."
Our first question came in through voicemail from a woman married over 20 years, in the lifestyle for three to five of them. Her husband? Thriving. Fully awakened, having the time of his life. Her? Done. Unhappy. Not sure how to say "I want to stop" without blowing up the whole relationship.
Pris did not pull punches here, because she's been this woman. She copped to years of not setting real boundaries with Adam because she "didn't want to hurt his feelings" — which, as she put it on air, is "sweet to say, but stupid to do." Sound familiar to anyone? Yeah, we thought so.
The conversation went deep into the actual mechanics of jealousy and trust — not the surface-level "just communicate" advice everyone gives, but the real work: figuring out what specifically about the lifestyle you don't like (is it the sex? the insecurity? feeling more like "a pussy" than a partner — Pris's words, not ours), versus what you actually enjoy and don't want to lose (hello, lingerie and a good pool-deck strut).
Adam jumped in with the flip side — what it's like to be on the receiving end of that conversation as the partner who doesn't want to stop. Spoiler: getting defensive, feeling attacked, or coming in "like a child" (his words, and yes, Pris agreed a little too fast) makes everything worse. The move is to shut up, listen, sit with it, and resist the urge to make it about you.
Our advice, boiled down: write two lists — what you don't like about the lifestyle, and what you do. Have the conversation sober (alcohol plus vulnerability is a bad cocktail, pun intended). And remember that "pausing" the lifestyle isn't the same as failing at it. Sometimes the answer isn't all-or-nothing — it's finding the version of non-monogamy, or monogamy, that actually works for both of you. And if you're stuck, there are ENM-friendly counselors out there, including several who've been guests on this very show.
Real quick: it's a SwingTap kind of episode
Before we got to question number two, we did our little SwingTap wearable show-and-tell (wedding ring, bracelet, the works). If you haven't heard us talk about it: SwingTap is a one-time-fee platform (no subscription lurking) where you build a lifestyle profile — photos, preferences, all of it — and get a custom link and QR code. Tap someone's wearable, your profile pops up. No fumbling for your SDC username across a loud bar, no spelling out your kink to a stranger. Adam's ring looks exactly like a wedding ring until he wants it to be something else. Check it out at SwingTap.fun, or use SwingTap.fun/share/BeyoMono to support the show while you're at it.
"How Do I Read the Room at a Pool Party Without Being Creepy?"
Question two came in through the messages, and it's a classic: a guy, three pool parties into his lifestyle journey, watches his wife get surrounded by admirers within minutes of hitting the water — while he stands there giving what he called "fuck me eyes" that absolutely nobody is catching. Relatable? Extremely. Adam admitted to doing the exact same thing.
Pris's answer was equal parts tough love and genuinely useful field guide. First: say hi to the husband before you start chatting up the wife (basic manners, people). Second: skip "you're smoking hot" as an opener — not because it's never welcome, but because delivery matters more than the line itself, and staring at someone's chest while you say it is, in her words, "not a good idea." Find something specific to compliment about both partners, make the husband feel comfortable with your presence, and let the conversation build naturally instead of forcing it toward sexy town immediately.
Adam's tactic: find one genuine compliment for each partner, make it about more than looks, and let the vibe develop. And for couples working the room together — divvy up the labor. If your wife's getting all the attention and you're getting none, that's a conversation to have before the party, not a silent resentment to nurse poolside.
Our favorite moment: Pris's reminder that most women have a built-in "douchey bag monitor" and can clock a creep from across the pool — so if you're anxious enough to be asking this question, you're probably not the problem. Confidence, not arrogance. Conversation, not a pickup line. And if all else fails, there's always the power move: walk over, kiss your spouse in front of everyone, and go make your own moment. As Adam put it, "that's fucking hot right there."
Two very different problems, one very ENM solution
Communication. It's always communication. Whether you're negotiating an exit from the lifestyle after two decades of marriage or trying to work up the nerve to say hi at a pool party, the through-line is the same: talk to your partner, be honest about what you actually want, and don't assume everyone else already has it figured out. Nobody does. We're all just winging it in swimsuits.
