Random Talks: Bedroom Dealbreakers & Swinger Club Etiquette
Ever wonder what happens when a swinger couple gets bored on a Saturday, grabs a smartphone full of half-typed questions, and hits record with absolutely no plan? Congratulations, you’ve found this week’s episode of Beyond Monogamy, the ethical non-monogamy podcast where “free flow” isn’t just a lifestyle philosophy — it’s apparently also our entire production strategy.
Fair warning before we go further: we are not licensed therapists, counselors, or — per an all-time Adam flub in the intro — “sex couches.” Sex coaches. Although honestly, given how much of this episode takes place on club couches, sex couch might be the more accurate credential.
Bedroom Dealbreakers: A Comprehensive List of Nope
Pris kicks things off with the question every couple in the swinger lifestyle should ask and almost none do: what do you NOT want someone doing to you in bed? And folks, the lady came with a list. No porn-style jackhammering (“it just creates air,” and she is not wrong, and we are not elaborating). No sucking on the neck — kissing yes, branding no. No biting the nipples. And do not even glance at the back door. Pris describes herself as “a delicate little flower… until I have bloomed, and then we can go to pound town.” Frame that. Put it on a t-shirt. It’s the most accurate relationship description we’ve ever aired.
Adam’s list is shorter but no less heartfelt: gentlemen everywhere, he pleads, on behalf of all men — ease up on the aggressive ball handling. Some things you learned from porn should stay in porn, along with the washing-machine style of oral that both hosts agree looks less like passion and more like heavy machinery. The house position on oral is unanimous: low and slow wins the race.
No Glove, No Love
Between the giggles there’s some real talk that every open relationship needs to hear. Adam’s number-one instant turn-off? People who just assume the condom conversation doesn’t need to happen. The couples who are truly rooted in the lifestyle community — the ones at the events, the ones who’ve been around — are the loudest champions of protection and regular testing. The spontaneous rip-your-clothes-off fantasy is hot; the reality is no glove, no love. Have the conversation. It will not kill the mood. (Neither will asking “can I touch you?” — more on that in a second.)
Swinger Club Etiquette: The Couch Shuffle
Here’s a scene every club-going couple knows: you sit down with another couple you adore, and through some slow tectonic drift, suddenly Adam’s next to her and Pris is next to him. And then… what? Can he put his arm around her? Is touching okay? Adam admits his instinct says yes but his brain spirals into a full congressional hearing. Pris’s solution is so simple it’s almost insulting: you could just ask. Revolutionary. Groundbreaking. Somebody alert the community.
They also get into playing separately — including the infamous night early on when Adam started walking to the back room with another woman and turned around to find Pris giving him the full deer-in-headlights “where do you think YOU’RE going” face. Rules were made that night, friends. There is now a system. There is a two-hour gap. The clock does not start until someone is physically walking to the back. This is the kind of granular non-monogamy legislation you only get from a couple that’s been doing this a while.
Girlfriends, Sexual Roommates, and Other Hypotheticals
Then Adam starts stirring the pot: would Pris ever have an actual girlfriend? The big R, romance? The answer is a genuinely sweet maybe — if it happens organically. Would anyone ever move in with them as a, quote, “sexual roommate”? Absolutely not. Hard no. Instant no. “There’s nobody outside waiting with a U-Haul,” Adam clarifies, which is exactly what someone with a U-Haul outside would say. Pris values her solitude, her territory, and her television, in roughly that order, and honestly — relatable.
The episode wraps with the age-old lifestyle question of who should proposition who in couple-on-couple play, a public service announcement for couples who post “single females only” and then immediately start hitting on couples (we see you), and a spirited linguistic debate over the correct plural of “penis.” The committee has ruled: it’s “penii” now. Take it up with the academy.
